I.C.T 2017.

Well it’s that time again I.C.T and what a time we had. First of all the Team, Players Kate Garnham, Meg Hassall, Maisie Burgess, Meg Diggle, Alice Fletcher, Vaibhav Mahajan (Web), Josh Burgess,Will Sadler, Ryan Chan and Ryan Curtis. Coaches Dave Perry, Ben Garnham and Tom Woodcock, Dave Burgess Warm Up Coach, Sandra Burgess Assistant Manager and Paul Woodcock Manager.

Ok day one first match Oxford, hoping for a win with this one but knew it would not be easy, lost 6-4. Next Devon knew this one would be hard thought it could be a 10-0 loss but managed to get a three ender win with the boy’s doubles of Ryan & Ryan, 9-1 to Devon. Last one on day one Cumbria with the squad getting into the tournament now hoping for a win here and we wasn’t disappointed 7-3. Now we have started lets hope to carry it on, WOW and did we carry it on.

Day two first up Northern Ireland (Alpha BC) 6-4 win, Bedfordshire 9-1 win, Wiltshire 8-2 win.

Onto day three tough one here Cornwall, they beat us first match last year time for revenge and we got it 6-4 win coming back from 4-2 down taking all of the men’s and women’s doubles in a 4 game run. Next Suffolk another win 6-4. That’s 6 wins on the trot, there will not be many teams at I.C.T that can say that.

Day four last match Hampshire tough 8-2 loss. This result leaving us in a great 21st position. Well with 6 wins previously who can complain certainly not me, if someone had said to me before the tournament you can have six wins out of nine matches they would not have any arms left let alone hands.

There wasn’t an outstanding player they all were, and I feel all deserve a mention, the old hand’s (experienced) player’s Kate, Meg H, Josh & Maisie, led from the front and helped the new players through, and fought just as hard as anyone. Now Ryan & Ryan, if they played level doubles together or mixed it did not matter, truly outstanding. Web’s never give in attitude, playing 1st singles nearly every match really wasn’t easy playing the best other county’s had to offer, but he kept going on and giving 100%. Meg Diggle being so young and showing huge potential for the future and signs of being a really top player. Alice! Well Alice what a temperament, goes on court shows no emotion whether winning or losing, wins and comes off, well I think we had a little fist pump and a YES, Alice kick started the amazing come back against Cornwall and really turned the game around for Lincs. I’ve left this one till last, came in as a reserve after Harry Pang dislocated his knee, does not play tournaments so the atmosphere at I.C.T must have been totally alien to him, but you wouldn’t have known it. Took every thing in his stride, and what you do get is 110% do or die fight to the end, there is only one WILL SADLER. Forming a new partnership with Josh Burgess and playing some really outstanding attacking and high level men’s doubles and to see how the pair grew together on and off the court was great to watch.

Okay nearly done now, supporters The Woods, Mike Willans, Paul.M, John.M, Harley Towler, Chris Smith who crept on and coached Ryan & Ryan, thanks Chris, all the parents and one I can’t forget the kit lady Amanda Clancy, I’m sure she loves I.C.T as much as I do. Thanks to all, and if I’ve forgotten any one sorry.

One more thing, I would like to thank the L.B.A for allowing me to spend four days with some truly out standing people. Who are not just an asset to Lincolnshire Badminton but great ambassadors to Lincolnshire County.

THANKS

Paul Woodcock.
